Condition affects collecting decisions. Learn the visual details worth noting before you buy, sell, or catalog a comic.

Inspect the cover first

Look for creases, color breaks, spine ticks, tears, writing, stains, fading, and detached staples. Note whether the defects are visible only on the cover or affect interior pages too.

Check structure and pages

Page quality, completeness, staple attachment, and spine integrity all matter. Handle older books gently and avoid making repairs if you need an unbiased professional assessment.

Keep a condition record

Record visible flaws and photos when adding a comic to your collection. This makes later comparisons easier and creates a more useful inventory.
